The NJ Elite Flames qualified for the US Club National Cup by winning the Mid Atlantic Regional tournament early July. The team arrived in Denver, CO on July 19th ahead of their opening match against North Penn (PA).
The first game of the group play was won 4-0 on goals by Arianna V., Yasla N. (x2) and Gianna M.
Angela A. and Kate D. had a shut out for the game.
The 2nd day saw a 2nd game against Seacoast United from NH. In a fierce battle that was chippy at times the Flames won 3-2 on goals by Gianna M., Morgan W. and Molly M.
Winning the first two games did not guarantee the team a clear passage into the final, the team needed a tie to advance but turned in a soper performance to win 2-1 against NY Surf (NY) on goals by Gianna M. and Yasla N.
Winning all 3 group stage games was already a huge success but the final was set to play against South Shore Select (MA) who also won all their group stage games. South Shore Select had won the NPL League National Championships the week before and were on a roll.
After a day of rest in which the Flames retreated to the beautiful mountains of Colorado, the final game was there.
After an exciting 90 minutes of soccer the score was 2-1 for NJ Elite and the Flames crowned themselves NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. NJ Elite's first National Championship team.
The girls finished their season with a 35-8-5 record, scoring 151 goals and allowing only 48 (3:1 average).
